Here’s a piece of in-class writing my C2 CPE group did this week. It’s impressive stuff, so read and match the texts to the pictures!
1) He’s a stocky, overweight man in his thirties. He’s got narrow shoulders, wide and massive neck and a hairy chest. He’s got a gorilla-shaped body. His legs are quite massive and straight. He’s standing upright with his legs splayed out and he’s holding his hips. His belly is visible and prominent. He’s wearing light shorts and a spotted, strappy top covering his belly. He is chubby on his face with a double chin. His lips are full but tiny. He is almost bald. He’s got a sunken waist and he looks hunched a little bit.
2) The man presents himself as a jolly old chap. Although his height is quite outstanding. He seems to tower over any regular-sized man or woman. Perhaps that is the reason for his ill-fitting trousers. Fortunately, as a man with a regular-sized head, he must’ve had no problem with finding himself a nice flat cap, which sits comfortably on his head. When it comes to his wealth, a lack of shoes suggests that he might come from the poorer side of the river. However, a smile that would light up a room is proof that his financial status may not be the top priority in his life.
3) He’s in his twenties, rather short and skinny with his hands clasped in front of him. He looks very intimidated and withdrawn. His face is partially hidden by the top hat. He is not wearing top trendy clothes – just a plain t-shirt, and baggy trousers with braces. Surprisingly, he is wearing Wellington boots as if he was working with horses. His posture can be highly exasperating and he would tend to reply in a prevaricating manner. His colleagues would be very caustic towards him all his teen years, which would explain his withdrawal nowadays. He wishes he would exert a masculine magnetism on women, but unfortunately he is just the opposite, women are usually startled by his timidness. Sometimes he works himself into a simmering rage when he sees it, but instead of being flirtatious, he is just socially clumsy.
4) She is a teenager, maybe even a young woman. She is skinny, if not anorexic. Her hair is messy, chaotically sticking out from under a beret. She is wearing a collared shirt, a pullover and a buttoned-up sweater. Her long, flared trousers are partially covering her shoes.
She looks sad, maybe even depressed.
5) The man is neither young nor old, maybe in his thirties. He has an upright posture, is rather slender, lean and good-looking. His hair is slicked to the side, parted on the left. A curled-up moustache is located above his lips. His slim body is clothed in an elegant classy suit consisting of a shirt covered by a vest and a jacket. He has a tie around his neck and a handkerchief tucked into his breast pocket. His long legs are clad in perfectly-fitted trousers with creases.
6) The women can be in her late forties. She is not chubby- looking thirty year old girl any more. She is not a person with an athletic body, rather an anorexic one. The bag of bones like others say. Nevertheless, she tries to cover that shortcoming by a long dress with parallel stripes. These kinds of stripes always add some kilograms to your body shape – visually, of course. The girly look isn’t her advantage, which is the reason why she underlines her gender with high-heel shoes and the flower in the buttonhole. However, to be treated more seriously in the office environment, she wears some kind of tie and a pair of glasses on her nose.
7) She is a woman in her late forties or maybe early fifties. She has a slender figure and is standing quite upright with her right hand resting on her hips and her left hand relaxedly positioned along her body. She has a tight-fitted, striped dress, with a hemline just under the knee level. The dress has a white, rounded collar which in the middle is parted with a narrow tie. On that she is wearing a loosely fitted jacket with slanted pockets and a slim, slanted collar. She has a brooch attached to the collar of her jacket. Her hair is very curly and uplifted, almost puffy and it looks as if it is being permed. She is wearing square-shaped, thick-rimmed glasses.
8) She’s a young, medium-height girl. She is slim, bony. She has shaggy, unkempt shoulder-length hair with a beret. She’s wearing a breathable jacket with an ironed shirt and tailored sweater vest underneath, flared jeans and worn-out trainers. Pigeon-toed and holding her hands in pockets, she looks a bit timid, intimidated and weary.
