Polish Gnomes Strike, by Sabina 2002

POLISH GNOMES STRIKE!!!

COME & ENJOY an EXTRAORDINARY EXHIBITION OF POLISH SCULPTURE IN the BRITISH MUSEUM

*GNOMES AS PART OF POLISH CULTURE

The sculptures of gnomes are made of plaster by folk artists. This sort of art is very popular in Poland, especially at the countryside. Local people sculpt small statuettes and then sell them. It is very trendy to have such sculptures in a garden , between bushes and flowers, so millions of gnomes are made and sold every year.

*GNOMES – DESIRABLE NOT ONLY IN POLAND

These plaster’s sculptures have become a real hit in Germany. Every German tourist buys at least one statuette as a souvenir , so gnomes are not only works of art but also a source of huge income for polish economy.

*GNOMES ON EXHIBITION

There are over 250 excellent sculptures – all made by Polish artists. Some of them were designed especially for this exhibition e.g. British version of gnome in a bowler hat , eating fish& chips and reading “ The Independent “.
Apart from sculptures , there will be a special symposium on dwarves in literature and films and projection of the movie ‘ Snow White and Seven Dwarves ‘.
